Describe how you started in project management

My project management career began unexpectedly while serving in the Virginia Army National Guard. Tasked with creating a user-friendly manual for mobilizing soldiers and their families, I found myself drawn to the process of mapping out the entire operation from start to finish. This experience sparked my passion for project management.

What has been a project accomplishment or a challenge that you have overcome that you feel most proud of?

I've honed my ability to simplify complex project details. Project teams often over-explain technical aspects, making it difficult to understand. I address this by asking numerous questions and breaking down information into easily digestible terms for everyone involved.

What are your thoughts on how project management may change in the next 3 - 5 years?

Project management is on the brink of significant transformation within the next 3-5 years. Enhanced technical proficiency will be crucial for project managers to thrive in this dynamic landscape. Additionally, AI will become an indispensable tool for generating and analyzing project documentation.

If you had to give advice for someone looking for a project management job in this job market, what would that be?

Don't be discouraged by intimidating job descriptions when seeking a project management role. All new positions involve a learning curve. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, proactively seek guidance by asking questions and identifying opportunities to contribute and achieve early successes.

What is one fun fact about you?

I'm a proud late bloomer, earning my Bachelor's at 34 and MBA at 35. This journey taught me that age is no barrier to success; it's never too late to achieve your goals.

Lori has a unique ability to balance the big picture while diving deep into the details, which she used to help me refine my financial management skills and ensure that every project I managed stayed on track and within budget.

Lori's guidance on budget forecasting, resource allocation, and cost optimization was invaluable.
