Describe how you started in project management
Starting in 2006, I played a crucial role in 'The Road Home' a significant disaster recovery effort following Hurricane Katrina, which focused on distributing federal funds to aid affected individuals in rebuilding. In my seventh year on this transformative project, a seasoned contractor noticed my knack for rallying the team. He suggested I formalize my skills with a PMP certification—a recommendation that steered my accidental project management into a purposeful career path.
What has been a project accomplishment or a challenge that you have overcome that you feel most proud of?
Volunteering with the PMI Baton Rouge chapter, particularly as President, ranks as one of my most rewarding experiences. During my presidency, I oversaw a remarkable 40% growth in membership, a testament to our dynamic strategies in governance, strategic planning, and member engagement.
My role was instrumental in steering the chapter towards fulfilling PMI’s global objectives, all while fostering a vibrant community where professionals could network, grow, and contribute meaningfully.
The connections and relationships I built with industry thought leaders during this period not only enriched my professional network but also deepened my commitment to the field of project management.
What is one fun fact about you?
In 2023, I channeled my project management prowess into a vibrant new venture—a photography business! With a website that captures the haunting beauty of Louisiana's swamps, paired with my kayaking adventures, it's a portal to my passions. And when I'm not behind the camera, you can catch me sharing swamp stories and insights through engaging speaking presentations.
