Describe how you started in project management
My path into project management started during my MBA program, where project management was included in the course offerings. It quickly became my preferred subject. Post-graduation, I seized every chance to get involved in project initiatives within my workplace, which ultimately steered me towards pursuing it professionally.
What has been a project accomplishment or a challenge that you have overcome that you feel most proud of?
I successfully navigated the task of a government-led initiative aimed at collecting substantial tax revenue from private aircraft and business property across several zip codes, adhering to the statutory deadline for the fiscal year. We faced significant obstacles, including outdated contact information and the need to coordinate efforts across various city departments. To address these challenges, I implemented a multi-pronged approach that included data cleansing, a targeted communication strategy, and the development of cross-functional teams. By thoughtful planning, we achieved our objectives while enhancing the precision of our database and developing more streamlined processes across departments for subsequent endeavors.
What are your thoughts about how project management may change in the next 3–5 years?
I think in the next 3–5 years, we'll witness further integration of AI tools in various areas, contributing to more effective task distribution and predictive analytics. I believe that Agile and adaptable methods are likely to be adopted at a growing rate, allowing teams to swiftly adapt to evolving project demands and market trends. Also, as more technical responsibilities are automated, project managers will need to enhance their soft skills such as leadership, communication, and emotional intelligence to lead their teams successfully. Remote and hybrid working models will probably continue influencing project management, creating a need for flexible approaches and better digital collaboration tools.
What are some of the most important qualities of a stellar project manager?
In my opinion, some of the most important qualities of a stellar project manager are exceptional communication skills, strong leadership abilities, and impeccable organizational skills. They excel at articulating project goals, inspiring team members, and efficiently managing resources, risks, and timelines. Moreover, they demonstrate adaptability in the face of challenges, employ strategic problem-solving skills, and take decisive actions to ensure project success and alignment with broader organizational objectives.
What is one fun fact about you?
One fun fact about me is that I have visited every continent except Australia. I look forward to visiting there one day. I like learning about people and their stories; everyone has a story.
