5 Person Networking Challenge - Hiring Managers

5 Person Networking Challenge

This challenge encourages you to connect with 5 new people every week. Connecting may involve sending a connection request, sending a private message, engaging with their content, scheduling time for a virtual chat, or maybe even taking them out for coffee if you are local to them. The purpose is to complete activities that increase your professional network.

During the the second of our series of the 5 Person Networking Challenge, we will be focusing on identifying current hiring managers through LinkedIn.

Identifying current hiring managers for the companies and roles that you are targeting will allow you to establish a connection, and you can reach out to them to highlight your application or future interest in their company.

Here are the steps to identify those individuals.

You will need to proactively identify the role name/type and target companies for this networking effort.

We will be using the "Marketing Operations" keyword for an example.

STEP 1 - START YOUR SEARCH

STEP 2 - CLICK PEOPLE

STEP 3 - CLICK ACTIVELY HIRING

You can check "Any job title" to gather a larger set of results or enter a specific job title as this example demonstrates. It may result in a smaller results set.

STEP 4 - FILTER DOWN TO UNITED STATES (if preferred)

STEP 5 - USE ADDITIONAL FILTERS

Utilize the Connections (1st, 2nd, 3rd) filter to find people that are within your network or point you in the right direction to identify someone in your network that could make a warm introduction. You can also reach out to them directly without an introduction if a connection does not exist.

Need help on what to send a new connection? Read my post "10 LinkedIn Messaging Prompts To Expand Your Professional Network".

STEP 6 - REVIEW THE PROFILES TO FIND A ROLE MATCH

Click into a profile from the results to find a role match. Even if they are not hiring for a role that exactly matches what you are currently looking for, reach out to them for a network request to learn about future opportunities. This is especially good advice if this person is working at one of your target companies.

Lori has a unique ability to balance the big picture while diving deep into the details, which she used to help me refine my financial management skills and ensure that every project I managed stayed on track and within budget.

Lori's guidance on budget forecasting, resource allocation, and cost optimization was invaluable.
